Within the book production process, the proofreader is the person who works on a manuscript once it has been laid out by the typesetter.

Traditionally the proofreader uses a red pen to mark up any mistakes that the typesetter has introduced (e.g. inserting the wrong figure, not using the appropriate heading style, accidentally deleting text, incorrectly spelling the author’s name in the Contents page, etc.) and a blue pen for any errors that ‘could’ have been picked up at the copy-editing stage (including, but not limited to, spelling and grammatical mistakes, as well as incorrectly marking up heading styles for the typesetter and not applying the ‘house style’).
This work is usually quite involved and not a case of reading through quickly and spotting the odd typo here and there. Please use my contact form if you would like to learn more about how I can help you with the proofreading process of your project.
